In the spirit of the season, we wanted to give a few of our 7th graders the opportunity to share with you what they are most thankful for here at Tindley.
I am thankful for the teachers that are making me think smarter and not harder and making me believe. -Jazz’Minn H.
I am thankful that teachers are devoted towards the scholars’ work. Teachers here work extra hours just for us. –RJ F.
I am thankful for Ms. Marshall (Collegiate Principal) for showing me what it means to be an African American woman in power. –A’Jewelle J.
As you can see, at Tindley, our scholars are touched by the love and attention they get from teachers and administrators. Our Chancellor and CEO, Mr. Robinson, was asked to share the teacher he was most thankful for. He said, “Mrs. Willie Byndon Steward, my fourth and fifth grade teacher, dared us to be amazing. She always taught us material well above the standards for our grade level, including conversational French. She orchestrated fundraisers to pay for busses for field trips to get us out of our neighborhood and immersed in the broader community. I would describe her as no-nonsense, stern, demanding and unrelenting in her expectations; all attributes we loved her for. Willie Steward saved my life. Her legacy lives on at Tindley where every day we try to be inspirational in the lives of our students. I wish she could have seen the impact of her service.”

An extension of the Charles A. Tindley Accelerated School, the Tindley Collegiate Academy is an all-girls middle school designed to help young girls become successful scholars regardless of their past academic performance.
Tindley Collegiate offers a unique curriculum focused on building scholar identity through a combination of rituals, routines, presentations, and many one-on-one conversations with students. Our instructional approach is tailored for the needs of girls, providing a wealth of opportunities for collaboration and dialogue.
Through a combination of accelerated classroom learning and character education, we empower girls to become successful scholars, preparing them for the rigors of high school and college opportunities. Our goal is to transform each of our students not only into excellent students, but also women of excellence.
